PISCATAWAY, N.J., Aug. 27, 2007 — The VoiceXML Forum, a global industry organization chartered to promote and to accelerate the adoption of VoiceXML-based applications , today announced that its chairman, Dr. Mark A. Randolph, has received the Speech Luminary award from Speech Technology Magazine. Dr. Randolph was one of only four individuals to receive this prestigious award. The Speech Luminary award, part of Speech Technology Magazine’s 2007 Speech Industry Awards program, recognizes individuals for extraordinary efforts made to advance the causes of their respective organizations and to increase the awareness and acceptance of speech technologies. Dr. Randolph and the rest of the 2007 Speech Industry Awards recipients were recognized last week at the 13th Annual SpeechTEK Conference and Exposition in New York City. As chairman, he has guided the Forum to expand its work beyond VoiceXML to include important, related speech, telephony and mobile technologies.

“Only the most dedicated individuals and innovative products and implementations are recognized each year,” says David Myron, editor-in-chief, Speech Technology Magazine. “Expectations are very high and the industry only recognizes those accomplishments that truly stand out.”

“It is a tremendous honor to be recognized for this important award,” said Dr. Randolph. “I accept this award on behalf of the VoiceXML Forum’s member community who has worked tirelessly to promote and accelerate the adoption of speech-based technologies through technology certification, education, marketing and technical initiatives. In large part due to the work of the VoiceXML Forum, speech is becoming a highly effective and ubiquitous user interface.”
