About Membership in the VoiceXML Forum

The VoiceXML Forum is open to any company interested in supporting the development and promotion of VoiceXML as an open, broadly supported markup language to enable speech-based applications and Internet information and content becoming voice and phone accessible.

The Forum is comprised of three membership levels: Sponsors, Promoters and Supporters. Companies may join the VoiceXML Forum as a Promoter or Supporter, and may be nominated as a Sponsor. Becoming a VoiceXML Forum Member will give you the opportunity to participate in the Forum's activities to support the development, implementation, and promotion of VoiceXML as a standard method for providing voice access to Internet content and services.

  Sponsors:
Sponsor Members are the Founders (AT&T, IBM, Lucent and Motorola) and Board of Directors of the VoiceXML Forum.

  Promoters:
Promoter level membership costs US$5,000 per year. Promoter Members have voting rights in the committees and working groups established by the Forum's Technical Council and Marketing Committee, and have the right to submit technology proposals for consideration in accordance with the Forum's Intellectual Property Rights Contribution Policy. Each Promoter Member, while in good standing, shall be entitled to designate one voting representative and an alternate representative to vote on each matter submitted to a vote in the working groups and committees. Promoters are entitled to all rights and privileges of the Supporter Member. In addition, Promoters are entitled to:

  • Participate in the technical and marketing activities of the Forum, by participating in committees and working groups that may be formed by the Forum's Technical Committee and Marketing Committee from time to time to address technical and marketing issues.
  • Attend meetings of the Forum's Technical Council without voting rights
  • Attendance and voting rights on committees and working groups established by the Forum's Technical Council
  • Ability to chair working group subcommittees
  • Attend Annual and member meetings
  • Propose and Submit technical contributions
  • Access to members-only section of website (under development)
  • Receive minutes and draft documents via members-only e-mail lists
  • Ability to participate in VoiceXML Forum sponsored events and meetings

Supporters:
Supporter level membership costs a nominal fee of US$500 per year. Becoming a supporter gives an early access to review the specification and other documentation. There will also be VoiceXML Forum conferences arranged where supporters are encouraged to participate. Supporter members are not entitled to any voting or attendance privileges in the VoiceXML Forum working groups, committees, subcommittees, etc. However, at the discretion of a Working Group chair, Supporter members may attend and contribute to such working group meetings and participate in works in progress. Each Supporter Member shall also be entitled to:

  • Public listing of membership on Forum's web site and printed membership materials
  • Subscription to a VoiceXML members-only / Supporters e-mail list where Supporters receive early access to information (e.g., draft specifications, public meeting announcements).
  • Supporter Members have the opportunity to provide comments and feedback without voting rights.
